I was looking forward to this game as I love mystery/puzzle games. However, I was very VERY disappointed. The settings are far too sensitive and when you try to scroll the image upward only slightly it shoots up. When you try to gently scroll back down, it shoots to the floor. Very aggravating. Also the various sayings and quotes Sherlock Holmes utters have nothing to do with the game and you are left wondering what you are supposed to be doing.

To be perfectly honest, I got to the second room and ended up giving up. There is no real direction or plot that seems to unfold and you are left in the room searching for goodness knows what until you find everything. If you don’t, you don’t move on. I still have no idea what I was supposed to be looking for! Save your money and buy Professor Layton or some other decent game.

I had such high hopes for this game, and pre-ordered it before it was available for purchase. After weeks of looking forward to receiving the game, I finally got it and popped it in the ds. After about 10 minutes, my disappointment began to set in. I wander aimlessly around the rooms, clicking here and there. I have only found 2 “puzzles” so far. Arranging the symbols on the door – can that really be considered a “puzzle”? Rearranging the library books – not a puzzle! I am great at brain-teaser, Prof. Layton-type puzzles, but this game offers nothing of the sort. Perhaps there is an aspect of the game I am missing, but at this point, I just want my $[...] back!

I’ve played FF IV probably 5 or 6 times before this, so I was struggling to find the motivation to play again. I was shocked by the amount of new content though, and the overall new presentation, enough to make it feel almost like a totally different game.

If you enjoyed it the first time, there’s enough to bring you back again. Best new addition by far is the auto-battle mode. You can pick one move for each character, assign it to them, and then just set it to auto-battle. With the simpler RPGs that are a bit older, this is a godsend. No more A,A,A,A,A,A,A 1000x just to select “Fight” in 100 random battles. You literally don’t have to ever again. Made the game immensely enjoyable.

I’m a new player when it comes to the Final Fantasy games, I’ve only played two other of the more recent ones. When I heard this game was a remake of one of the old origonals, I had to check it out. I love the ideology of all the FF games, and they made good usage for the dual screnes of the DS. Not a lot of use for the stylus, though. But, it is a remake. The graphics are nice, even though their nothing like the opening movie, but that’s to be expected. I love the fight setup, easy to understand even for the beginning FF player.

So I jumped into the FF series VERY late, and decided to go in no logical order (that also happens to be chronologically), so I had no experience with the dynamic battle system inherent in the later games until this point.

I was very pleasantly surprised.

The main problem with FF 1-3 (apart from the unimaginative stories) was that once you figured out who was weak to what, the game became a grindfest until you could easily defeat higher enemies. This of course breaks flow, is boring, and is not good for any game (save MMOs, apparently). The Active Time Battle system (along with some considerably smarter enemies) overcomes this, where every random encounter feels like a fight for your life. Strategy and information are KEY in this game, as enemies frequently can and will wipe your whole party (the libra spell is your best friend!).

There are some problems with the explanation of the system, though. If you wait a moment at any characters main menu (not to be confused the magic or item menu) in battle, you’ll quickly notice enemies are still free to take their turns, so you have to either open your spell list or target an enemy to stop time, even in WAIT mode (I end up using pause more often than not, myself). The game shadily tells you this (in so many words) in a few places, but it never quite jumps out and says it, and this can be pretty annoying the 15th time after checking for sure the ENEMIES WAIT THEIR #%^$ TURN button is checked (of course, if you’re crazy you can run through the whole game on ACTIVE mode, where enemies can act as soon as they can, no matter what you’re doing).

Another not so desirable feature is the touch screen, which can best be described as having little to no effect on the direct game itself. Yes, there are a few minigames that make use of it, but apart from those it doesn’t get used at all, even in battle! (And for anyone who points out that you can use it to move like in FF3, I will counter that because your characters are on the top screen, the feature becomes a shadow of what it used to be)

One good thing the touch screen brings to the table (although this is the “screen” part of it, not the “touch”) is a map feature, handed to you a bit into the game by a certain rabbit. This map makes dungeon crawling infinitely easier, especially when you clear a whole dungeon only to realize you need to leave the way you came in (which happens more than once).

The story is clear, well paced, and not as full of itself as some of the later games, and it’s made more immersive through the magic of VOICED CUTSCENES (to hear the Gamestop guys tell it, at any rate). Frankly, the voiced ones don’t come into play very often, but considering the quality of the actors, that’s ok… The story, at any rate, is of good quality, and worth finishing the game for.

Finally, a warning. As with many Final Fantasy’s, characters come and go in this one faster than enemies, so be careful who you equip with what, and save often. This is doubly true of AUGMENTs (powers you can equip on one character), which can’t be moved after the fact.

This game is great but some times bad. I bought this because i thought it looked good and i am a big fan of the final fantasy games.

what is good about this game is the graphics. it has great graphics and cut scenes and they are probally some of the best graphics for the ds. the story and the attacks and stuff are a great improvement from the snes version.

what is bad about this game is the diffuculty. the game is very hard and it took me 42 hours to beat.they dont have a diffuculty select for the game so it is always hard. the bosses are always extremely hard so it is impossible to beat them unless you are a high level so you have to level up (which can take hours) before fighting.

also the dungeons and everywhere is filled with monsters that you run in to about every 10 seconds. another thing is each character can have only certian weapons so you cant really customize. last is abilities. the abilities are arnt so goood. the darkness sucks cuz all it does make your attack slightly higher.

this is a very good game and is very fun and has a goood story.

therefor i reccomend this game for all. i reccomend this game for patient people. and, if you are not patient i also reccomed buying a game shark or action replay when you buy this game too.

OK – so maybe it isn’t the ideal quintessential version, but it is the best one out there so far.

The game originally came out on the S-NES, was ported to the Sony PS with beautiful animated cut-scenes, and now it is a DS Game with the most features to date.

The game itself was flawless on the Super Nintendo. The PS version had lag-time due to CD-ROM load. The DS Version boasts a beautiful touchscreen control scheme, includes the cut-scenes, lots of unlockable informational extras, extra quests, a new english translation, and a new ending.

I have replayed Chrono Trigger several times on SNES and emulator, and I had a blast replaying it on the DS. The new english translation is not essential, but I highly enjoyed it! The new ending was the most exciting aspect of the game as it expands upon the original story.

Did I mention that Chrono Trigger, the story, the characters, the imagination, the style are all beautiful, classic, and iconic. Well they are.

This is easily one of the best rpgs, no, best games of all times. I really wish they would do a quality motion picture big screen adaption. It would be awesome to see Hayao Miyazaki and his amazing Ghibli Artists bring this thing to life. Anyways I digress.

The new quests are tedious, tedious, tedious! They do not add anything. They really suck! But the new ending that is unlocked is worth it!

I cannot recommend this game enough (especially this version). Yes, ideally, they would have remade the game in 3D with voice-overs,and done well, that would have been MUCH better; still this is the best version to own right now.

Chrono Trigger is a classic, and it still more than holds up to this day. Now if only they will remake it with enhanced graphics or a big screen movie adaption, I will get that!

Having played some of the previous “throwback” games for the DS and Advance, I was a little skeptical about playing Chrono Trigger through again. Chrono Trigger had a special place in my heart growing up and I didn’t want to ruin it! Playing Final Fantasy IV through again for me was kind of like watching a movie from your childhood years later. You remember it being awesome, but then you watch it again and are unimpressed. All of this is to say that part of me wanted to leave Chrono in my memories, but my sister got it for me for my birthday even though I am 28 years old so I couldn’t resist!

Boy am I glad that I got it. Chrono Trigger is everything that I remembered it to be. The storyline, in my opinion, is still among the best that Squaresoft/SquareEnix has ever put out. The SNES was the pinnacle of the console RPG in my time period and Chrono Trigger is just one more example of why I always say that!

I know that some people can find the fights repetitive, but those of us who are used to console RPGs expect this from the game. Still, you can speed up various aspects of the combat (such as text, combat speed, and enemy action during menu usage) which really picks up the pace.

The cut scenes that were added in are okay. They are a little bit too “anime” if you know what I mean. I wouldn’t have been upset if they didn’t add them at all, but I wasn’t disappointed with them either. The split screen makes for a user friendly gaming experience, the music is still catchy and among the best to grace a video game, and the various sub-plots are captivating. Would I recommend Chrono Trigger? You betcha! Great game. Buy it today.

Now if they would only re-release the original Secret of Mana for DS…

There are many who feel that Chrono Trigger is the greatest game ever made. Certainly it is one of the greatest RPGs ever made, in my own experience equaled only perhaps by Final Fantasy VII (never did care for any other Final Fantasy games). It’s a rolicking-good-time for fans of adventure and sci-fi, and as RPGs go a whole lot of fun. More than that, the genius of its design and brilliance of its story is not debatable. It’s legendary. Even better, it makes for a game that’s fun!

When I first started the game I was wondering exactly how the game would make me feel. I like the deep story of RPGs, but hate dungeon crawling, random battles, and that very irritating feeling of having absolutely no idea where to go next to get the story moving again. I need not have feared, though. Chrono trigger has no random battles, it’s castles and dungeons are brief not every-lasting, and thankfully, you will always know where to go next.

The story starts with you in your village on the day of the millenial fair, and you quickly meet a girl there and (using your friend’s new teleportation machine) find the girl gone and yourself back in time trying to rescue a queen who has been kidnapped (and who your friend has been mistaken for because {surprise, surprise} she is the crown princess and the descent of that queen. You have some adventures come back to your time, get put on trial for kidnapping the princess, and see one of the greatest scenes in any videogame ever, as all your actions in the first hour of the game are played back as evidence against or for you. Eventually you get out of that situation (one way or another) and find yourself again traveling through time, only to find that the world was destroyed by a monster far in the future, unless you can stop it…

The prologue is awesome but the main story of the game is really amazing. You have all the classic trapping of a great legend, from a hero turned into an animal, to an ancient sword that has to be reforged, to a princess and an unlikely hero out to save the world. That’s enough to make a good game. What propels Chrono Trigger into greatness is the power the story is given by the strength of the characters and writing, and absolutely fantastic presentation and gameplay. The game is loaded with humor character, from the little girl accusing you of not rescuing her cat at the trial, to a tiny furry creature who is the master magician (and keeps popping up in different times doing everything from hiking on the mountain of monsters to playing rag-time on the piano in an inn), from the goblins who wonder why you just popped out of a time portal in their closet to the Frog who talks in noble Shakesparian and the cute robot you find in the future. There were so many times when I played this game and felt real joy in the moments it presented. When I first discovered the robot in the future and his theme played, I felt attached to him instantly (he’s so cuuuute), and when the hero frog leapt off saying he had failed to protect the queen, I felt so bad for him (he was really handy with sword and saved my bacon). That’s the kind of thing that gets to you. I haven’t felt that way about an RPG since Xenosaga’s Cyborg said “Call me Ziggy”, and Final Fantasy VII had girls asking a certain brooding hero whether he remembered his promise or would be their bodyguard.

It cannot be overstated how much the lack of random battles, and the constant boss battles (which you will almost always win) increase the amount of fun you have with this game. The excellent battle system which highly encourages teamwork amoung your party keeps you constantly on your toes and nervous that you could lose the battle, and never gets tedious or frustrating. The graphics may be old-school, but that about as good sprite-based graphics get. The music is very atmospheric and catchy, and the main themes are just beautiful. The story twists and turns, and how you play can determine the way certain events unfold (the game has more than one ending and you can even play past the “end”). But above all, the story and characters are just impossible not to love if you like a good story. If you like RPGs and don’t mind if they’re a little old, you will LOVE this game.

I think if you want a computer version of the games, buy a version for a PC where you can see better what’s going on and have more control.

This game card consist of 4 games:

Battleship: Place your naval fleet and sink your opponent’s ships before he sinks yours. A classic.

Connect four: Line up four checkers in your colour diagonally, horisontally or vertically. A classic and a sure hit for children.

Sorry!: My favourite among these four. Pick a colour, draw a card that tells you how to move and do it. Sometimes your pawn will move backwards, other times forwards, and at times you’ll change position with another player. If you land on a space occupied by an opponent, you’ll send him back to start. The goal is to get all 4 pawns in your colour home. Drawing cards with such variety in orders sure is a step up in the Ludo look alikes!

Trouble: Similar to Ludo, but with a very different board. 6 gives you an extra roll.

Although this game card only contains 4 games, they are great games and I have spent hours of fun with it. I recommend it to anyone who likes these games, and anyone who is into board games on electronic media.

Too start off, I cannot do math for the life of me. I mean, If I understand it well, I could breeze through it. But enought talking about my personal problems and about the game. A YouTube user by the name CenaChaingangSoldier did a unboxing and review on this game, being a nerd like me, of course I watched it. I wanted to inquire more about this game. I found a game at one of my local Wal*Marts and read the back cover. Seemed decent, but didn’t need it at the moment. A few weeks later I was on a hunt for this game. It’s not a rare game by any means, just a bit hard to find in my area. The Wal-mart I saw it at was out of stock. Another Wal-Mart had the same problem. No stock of the game. I finally bought this game at Target. It was the last copy, and for twenty bucks, I couldn’t resist. I plopped the game into my DS as soon as I got home, and to my suprise, the game is basically just Brain Age’s math, except without the reading/etc. that Brain Age has.

The gameplay is… well… kind of hard to explain. You take a daily quiz, you can practice things like flash cards, addition, subtraction, multiplcation, the works. To my suprise even long division. It’s a good concept for a game and it’s a good game, but there are two big downfalls which took away a whole star.

1. The recognition. I noticed this problem mostly on the number four (4). It usually always registers as eleven or seven. You have to be very precise and it usually wastes time. You technically aren’t timed, but if you want to get a gold, silver, or bronze medal you need to work quick. You have the option to erase, but it just wastes more time.

2. No unlockables- What you see on the menu options and beyond those buttons is what you get. There are no unlockables. So when you get to the highest level which I beleive is nine, and you have all of your basic math down, the game is kind of pointless. You can keep practicing if you wish, but after awhile you’ll probably throw it in your drawer and let it collect dust or trade it in for pocket change at GameStop.

That’s my review for today. All in all, I would reccomend it to someone who wants to master basic math skills. But for math magitians, don’t even bother. If I could give this game three and a half stars I would, but I’m feeling generous today….

My son is strong in math but I noticed he is missing some of the basics. This game takes him thru drills with single to low double digit addition and multiplication, and seems to be challenging especially with the time limit. He loves to beat his own score.

The other nice feature is the 10-15 min daily practice (gives a check mark for each day on a calendar) and the summary report that shows his progress.

This is not a fancy game, but seems to be very effective in instiling ‘boring’ math skills

My 6-year old loves this DS game. He played with it for 2 hours when he first got it. Are you tired of printing out math worksheets for daily practice? This will be a great game for you and your child. I wouldn’t worry about the DS not recognizing your handwriting. We have not had a problem with this as other reviewers have. It recognizes my 6-year old’s handwriting without a problem. Even if you only play with it a few minutes a day it can help improve your addition skills. Definitely worth the money.

I got this for my 6 year old son who likes quieter games rather than the crazy fast paced games they make for boys. It was too easy for him though but he still did it all for fun. I recommend this for 4-5 year old age group children. it has simple puzzles, connect the dots and speed coloring which is all easy on the eye and hand but fun.

the aim is to find 3 colored crystals on a hunt.

This game has 7 classics, all from 1979 to 1985, Including Galaxian(4/5), Pac Man(5/5), Galaga(5/5), Xevious(4/5), Mappy(4/5), The Tower of Druaga(2/5), and Dig Dug II(5/5). I like it how if you press START, SELECT, START while holding R, you can have a 2 player game on a single DS. And then there’s a wireless/download game: Pac Man Vs.

How to operate Pac Man Vs.: Select Pac Man Vs.; In the middle of the touch screen you’ll se a circle that says Wireless Vs. Touch it or select it with the A button. Then you’ll see Create Room, Find Room, etc. I got stuck on the circle part and thought it was searching for opponnets. And I thought it was lousy because it wasn’t working. So make sure you select Wireless Vs.

Anyhow, Pac Man Vs. is fun, and for the first time ever, you can be a ghost trying to catch Pac Man!

I would recommend this game to anybody, especially old games fans.

This games takes you through “school.” You basically do fun, short games in different areas such as memory, identifying patterns, counting, etc. Then it grades you. When you feel confident, you may take a “test” and get an overall grade. You watch your progress. It is similar to Brain Age, as it trains you to think more quickly. I enjoy really enjoy it!

I got this game about a year ago and find that it is addicting and fun to play. The different categories have practice levels (easy, medium, hard) in which you can score one of 4 medals: bronze, silver, gold or platinum. The platinum medals come when you score enough points above the gold level (for each type of game and level of difficulty it is different). I have seen platinums awarded for anywhere in the range of 335-500+. I finally managed to crack an A (1730g) on the test after being stuck in the A- range for months.

What I like about this game is that it develops your reaction time (especially the number memory game) between seeing something and processing the information, your short term memory and visual discernment of patterns and shapes. I also like that your scores, both in practice and testing, are updated when you beat them no matter how many times per day you play it.

The barrage of “comments” from the narrator gets tiresome, which is my main problem with the game. A small qualm is the stylus interface can be a bit frustrating when you get in a hurry, but it’s not bad enough to mar game play.

If you are a puzzle person, you will probably enjoy this game.
